Here's what you'll need:
- It's October Witches Vertical Porch Stencil (sizes vary)
- Wooden board (board size corresponds to stencil size)
- Americana Acrylic Paint
- Pumpkin
- Lemon Yellow
- Kelly Green
- Lavender
- Payne Grey
- Slate Grey
- Black
- Stencil Brushes
- Frog Tape
- Repositionable Spray Adhesive
- Americana Acrylic Sealer (optional)
- Paper Towels
- Paint Tray (or Paper Plates)
Applying the Base Coats
If recycling an old sign, first paint it with white primer and allow it to dry completely.
Then, add a base color of Americana Acrylic Paint in Payne Grey and let that dry.
Positioning the Stencil
Now, turn over your stencil and spray the backside with Repositionable Spray Adhesive. Do so in a well-ventilated area and take care not to breathe in the fumes.
Wait about 30 seconds or so for the spray to cure, then position the stencil on the board. Press lightly all around to ensure proper adhesion.
Stenciling the Witch's Hat and Shoes
Next, roll a stack of paper towels and place aside. Shake your bottle of Lavender paint thoroughly and pour out a small amount onto a paint tray.
Soak the brush bristles and then remove excess paint, first on the edge of the tray, and then by swirling the brush repeatedly on the paper towels. Too much paint on the brush will result in bleeding underneath the stencil.
Apply the color in light coats using the same swirling motion as before.
Masking
For the witch's shoes, use Frog Tape painter's tape to mask off surrounding elements. Apply the paint as described earlier.
Stenciling "October"
Use Lemon Yellow for the word "October".
Stenciling the Spiders
Stencil the spider designs using Slate Grey.
Stenciling the Green Sock Stripes
Mask off the narrower stripes on the socks and fill in the rest with Kelly Green.
Stenciling the Remaining Text and Finishing the Shoes
Use Pumpkin (or Pumpkin Spice) to paint the "IT'S" and "WITCHES" text.
Then, mask off the shoe buckles and heels and stencil those with the same paint.
Finishing the Socks
Now, switch to Black and mask off the green stripes and other nearby elements to complete the socks.
Once finished, remove any tape holding the stencil in place and lift it straight up to reveal your whimsical new vertical porch sign!
